Coniston Water is one of the largest lakes in Cumbria at 5.25 miles long.

Coniston is a wonderful place for friends and family to come along and experience a weekend in the Lake District with plenty of local walks and activities in the area, as well as celebrating your swim.

The ‘Old Man of Coniston' rising dramatically behind Coniston is one of the highest mountains in Cumbria at 803 metres. The ‘man' is the large cairn on the summit. Coniston Water was used for a long time as a highway for the transport of copper, iron ores and slate. A relic fish from the Ice Age, the Arctic Char, still inhabits these waters.

There are two commercial boat operators on Coniston, the Gondola and the Coniston Launch. Both run to timetables and will drop walkers at points along the course, which spectators could enjoy completing the tour of the lake. For safety and space reasons there is no spectator viewing at the start location, spectators are advised to wish their swimmers good luck before they board the shuttle bus.

Ample participant and spectator parking is provided at the Event HQ, where spectators can either walk (approx. 20 minutes) or take the road train/shuttle bus to the finish location at the head of the lake.

The Event HQ and registration will be at John Ruskin School, Coniston. There are plenty of accommodation options nearby from camping, to cottages, bed and breakfasts, and hotels Check the Go Lakes website for a full list of accommodation options.
